Economic and Social Development

North American region plays a pivotal role in economic globalization, both as a leading driver of global change as well as a growing participant in an increasingly interconnected international economy. North America has the world’s most powerful economy. It is also has the most affluent population. This means we have an abundance of wealth, property, and other material goods. There are about 335 million people who consume huge quantities of global resources. But, we also produce some of the world’s most sought-after manufactured goods and services. North America’s geographic diversity, resource abundance, and size all contribute to our regions global dominance in economic affairs. North America has been blessed with the ability to have a varied storehouse of natural resources. Our raw materials have been provided by our regions climate and biological diversity, its soils and terranes, and its abundant energy, metal, and forest resources. The direct extract of the natural resources make up 3 percent of the United States economy. It has affected 6 percent of the Canadian economy. Some of these materials get exported to global marketers, while other raw materials are imported to the region. People in North America have produced some of the most productive food-producing systems in the world. Places in the United Sates that have supplied the most materials include parts of Texas and Oklahoma, and parts of Colorado. States with specialty crop or livestock farming include Georgia, parts of Texas, and Louisiana.
